Eva Willems

I am an historian and conduct ethnographic research on the legacies of the civil war between the Shining Path, self-defense militias and the state forces that took place in Peru between 1980 and 2000. I am especially interested in how local notions of time, memory and victimhood are intertwined with international ideas on human rights and transitional justice in post-conflict settings. I am also involved as a volunteer in the Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team (EPAF), a human rights organisation dedicated to the search for disappeared persons.
